NTN Donates Three Units of “NTN Hybrid Street Lights” to Ishikawa Prefecture

25 Jan,2018

For regional disaster and crime prevention measures, and as a proposal for locally produced and consumed renewable energy

NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) has donated a total of three units of “NTN Hybrid Street Lights,*1” which generate power using wind and solar light, to Ishikawa Prefecture, Hakui City and Shika Town in Hakui District, as one initiative aimed at coexisting with local communities as part of the company's 100th anniversary activities.

With NTN's 100th anniversary approaching in March 2018, NTN will donate a total of 17 “NTN Hybrid Street Lights” to five locations within Japan, as part of efforts to express appreciation to communities in regions that have given support over the years but also hope to be together with them.*2 Five units were donated to Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture in August last year.

NTN operates four group companies in Ishikawa Prefecture – NTN Hakui Corp., NTN Houdatsushimizu Corp., NTN Shika Corp., and NTN Noto Corp. – which produce a wide variety of industrial machinery bearings. In July last year, a new heat treatment plant was constructed at NTN Noto Corp., enabling an integrated bearing production system to operate in the Noto area to further boost competitiveness.

The three units of “NTN Hybrid Street Lights” have been installed at Ishikawa Prefectural Nanao Shinonome High School, Hakui City road station “Noto Chirihama” and Shika Town road station “KorogakinoSato Shika,” where they will be used to provide guide lighting at community evacuation areas, security lighting and as an emergency power supply.

A donation ceremony was held at the Ishikawa Prefectural Office on January 12, where NTN Executive Vice President Inoue presented Ishikawa Governor Tanimoto, Hakui City Mayor Yamabe and Shika Town Mayor Koizumi with records of the donations. Mayor Tanimoto expressed his gratitude, stating “NTN Hybrid Street Light' installed at the high school will also be useful as a form of environmental education for students of the next-generation.”

NTN will continue donating to other communities as a useful tool for regional disaster or crime prevention measures. Proposing locally produced and consumed energy, where power is generated and used in the same region, NTN contributes to the development of a low carbon society.
